Caring for Alpacas
Caring for alpacas is very easy.
They are naturally clean (They will share a communal dung pile).
They are remarkably hardy and disease free. They do not require
large amounts of land, and their gentle nature and intelligence
makes them easy to train and safe for children to handle.
Alpacas originated in the harsh
climactic conditions of the Andes. They do not require expensive
heated barns. A shelter from the wind in cold weather and shade
from the sun in hot weather will keep them comfortable. They do
not challenge fences, so no special fencing is required. One acre
of land can support approx. 8 animals.
There diets consist of grass hay
with a small amount of grain supplement daily.
Alpacas require little special
care beyond toenail trimming as needed, worming on a monthly basis
with yearly inoculations , and shearing.

How we changed
Starting in 2008 the economy sadly had taken a down
turn, with prices of alpacas and supporting products at there low point, the
number of new breeders coming into the alpaca business came to a halt or at
least very slow.. Now half way into 2010 things have adjusted in the
industry. Prices are leveled off, farms are gong to shows and there is even
a larger push towards the fiber side of the business.
I have chosen to sell the farm and female alpacas,
moving down state towards St. Louis to put all my efforts into the Fiber
Mill, and get the general public to have direct contact regarding alpacas
and there products.
New breeders as well as current breeders are
welcomed to visit the fiber mill and if you think you would like to learn
about processing fiber, come work with me in the mill... Can be for the day
or several days. Bring some fiber with you and we will process it
together...

Fiber Mill started in 2006
As of Dec of 2006 we have placed in
operation a complete full service fiber mill. Now instead of
putting your fiber in your barns give us a call and we can help
get that fiber processed for you to sell or make products of
your own.
